STAR WARS COURT
The Star Wars court was a cross promotion opportunity between NBA and Star Wars. This was a last-minute live service request. The Art Director gave me a general direction he wanted to take for the environment and then, with my past Star Wars IP experience, gave me the freedom to carry it out. Since we were short on time, we retrofitted an existing environment.
I worked closely with lighting and our technical director to push a lot of new ideas onto this court. I modeled and set dressed the light banks along the walls to seem like props brought in for a themed tournament. The lighter’s loved the addition, allowing them to add more dynamic lighting. The glowing red lines were a feature I had to make a case and fight for. There were a lot of reasons to cut them along the way, but with persistent creative problem solving and the technical director's help, they became a main attraction of the court. The tech was later used on other courts due to its popularity.
COURT TREATMENTS
Aside from Star Wars, this particular venue received several treatments / re-skins. This was part of a key brand strategy, so we had to push out a lot of them very quickly. I worked with the AD and the concept team to artfully apply our partner brands' aesthetics to the venue in ways that excited players and freshened up the court.
